How to kill an angel

summary

In charge of paradise's security, Nathaniel works hard to keep the angels safe. Danger comes from below, the pit of demons right beneath their feet, so when a human starts to cause trouble up above, it makes him question the system he'd deemed infallible. Who's Aiden, and more importantly, can he trust him? Why do his fingertips leave goosebumps in their wake and his kisses feel as warm as sunlight?

Intoxicated by vetiver leaves and cedar wood, in a world where their eyes meet through the dark and the warmth of Aiden's body feels like home, Nathaniel puts his integrity at risk. Humans aren't supposed to make him feel this way, and never have; the only one who'd ever come close was one of his own, gone with the years, an aching memory. How is Aiden so like him? The golden curls on his head, the depth of his eyes, the color of his skin...

Archangel Nathaniel and the seven deadly sins

This post contains spoilers for How to kill an angel. Below is an analysis of Nathaniel's character, which I only recommend to those who have already read the book. How many of these did you catch? What did you miss? Some are very subtle.

Wrath is the first deadly sin he displays and the one he battles with the most; he's quick to anger and often fails to calm down. Innocuous comments from Aiden are enough to set him off. His hatred for demons is so strong that, even when he falls and gets to know them better, he still wishes harm upon them simply because they are demons. His position in the army allows him to act upon this rage with no consequence. In fact, he's celebrated for it...

a dream I had of a human blowing an angel on the bathroom floor. He had curly hair and big eyes and was only doing it to make his ex-boyfriend, a different angel, jealous. I can still picture it, his head tilted a bit to the side to peek around the angel’s hip, eyes focused on his ex-boyfriend’s face just a few feet behind the angel, smirk threatening to tug on his lips. I was so captivated by these two that I just had to write about them. Why did they break up? They’re clearly not over each other.
